Who is Plant Matter?
Plantmatter‘s journey all began when the founder started designing and testing grow bags for his personal use. Thereafter they realised there was an opportunity to offer a local alternative to grow enthusiasts around South Africa.
What makes Plantmatter so special is it’s fully homegrown with all production happening right here on local soil, meaning they inspire and focus on ensuring they contribute to South Africa and its economy.
Design/Appearance
Unfortunately, in most cases, grow bags aren’t the most appealing things to look at. However, that’s not the case for Plantmatter as they have created a very simple, durable and classy product that relates to effectiveness. The best parts are the design and water storing abilities – it’s perfect for both outdoors, indoors and especially great if you grow weed.
They come in a variety of sizes to fulfil your needs and on the smaller units, there is a velcro strip that will make repotting plants an absolute pleasure. The bigger units also have handles making movement super easy, see the available sizes below.
5L | Height 16cm | Diameter 20cm (Velcro side)
10L | Height 22cm | Diameter 25cm (Velcro side)
22L | Height 30cm | Diameter 30cm
50L | Height 35cm | Diameter 42cm (Handles)
100L | Height 40cm | Diameter 55cm (Handles)
Effectiveness
If we’re honest, we are highly impressed by Plantmatter. Being avid growers ourselves, seeing a brand that has a passion for these bags is refreshing and they really bring a 21st-century twist to an already pretty primitive process.
Testing their products proved that they are easy to use and are highly effective in storing water and nutrients for our little green buddies. The only comment we have is that overwatering will result in a damp grow bag.
Price Point
So the bags come in at R35 for the smallest size, up to R140 for the largest size. This is extremely reasonable, especially when compared to a small plastic pot from a garden shop coming in at about R15 for a similar size. When you compare the price of these pots to the rest of the equipment needed for growing, this is a small price to pay for quality products and high yield.
Plantmatter Grow Bag Conclusion
So all in all, what a beautiful brand. We don’t only back the bags, but also support the owners, the movement and message they have promoted.
The bags are highly effective and prove useful in most growing cases, especially when plants need to be moved, replanted or given nutrients. With that being said, the product isn’t as accessible as you would like it to be and does take a little bit of social labour to acquire them.
