Set in the infamous 27 boxes with artsy Melville as the perfect backdrop to this cannabis market. Happening every Sunday or 1st Thursday of the month, the event gives us bored Joburgers something a little different to do.
The parking lot was packed on arrival and there was minimal space to leave my car even on the road – as much as this annoys me it shows that there is a large interest in the cannabis lifestyle and people are coming out in mass to support the cause.
I was greeted upon arrival by a friendly stoner who showed me his floating duck bong – the perfect gift for anyone who loves a warm late night soak & sizzle. After a bit of banter, I moved onto the next stall and was greeted by four warm smiles and offered some homemade edibles – what a treat!
My initial thoughts were that this would be a very kitsch and cliched stoner event. However, it turned out to be a great mix of people, stalls and an electric energy that was in the air… or was that just all the smoke from the joints? 😉
Jokes aside this is a great educational introduction for anyone dabbling in the thought of learning more about cannabis and the veteran stoner alike. I always find it interesting how dagga brings people of all socioeconomic & cultural backgrounds together, perhaps it’s the plants’ unique chill-out factor or the healing benefits people have received from this ancient medicine.
I can highly recommend attending this cannabis market – my suggestion is to go on a Thursday evening as it is a lot less busy than the Sunday markets. Make sure to get there between 5-6.30pm to have enough time to absorb everything in, and remember to ask questions and get social with the people running the stands as well as guests wandering around.
P.S I would feel comfortable taking my Granny to this market.
Peace be the journey ✌️
