Us stoners are well known for our movie watching abilities, or attempts at least as we often end up finishing the movie off the next day after taking a quick power nap.Â
Being a little ‘medicated’ when watching a movie is always entertaining, making a lot of things funnier than they actually are. It is for this exact reason that I have compiled my Top 10 list (in no specific order) of stoner movies that I cannot get enough of. Without further ado, let’s roll away!
Kid Cannabis is based on a true story and is all about an 18 year old high school dropout teaming up with his 27 year old mate who embark on a mad adventure to smuggle bud from Canada to the States. All in an attempt to make some money and harbour some social status – but of course, the plot takes a couple of twists and turns with things not quite working out the way they intended.Â
Every stoner knows Cheech & Chong – perhaps the most notorious duo in weed history. Well known for their stoner antics across their various movies. Up In Smoke is my personal favourite. If you haven’t seen this one already, get on it and watch their adventure unfold before your glazed eyes.Â
This one’s a little wacky, but always provides a good laugh. It isn’t the greatest piece of cinema history, I won’t lie, but if you’re feeling a lil’ lazy and are looking or some easy watching then this is worth a go. With a few notable names in the cast, such as James Franco, Natalie Portman and Danny McBride – it makes it onto this list purely for its weirdness.Â
Where do I even start with this? Being mistaken for a millionaire isn’t always a good thing. This is something that Jeff “The Dude†Lebowski soon realises as he finds himself amidst one of the strangest kidnapping scenarios. Join Jeff and his buddies on their weird adventure with a jiggy in hand.Â
This blast from the past is all about the joys of the last day of school. Join this hippie bunch of Texas highschoolers on their last day, partying it up and roaming their towns streets. Filled with the typical yet tastefully funny stereotypes of stoner schoolkids, this is an oldie but a goodie filled with good vibes and nostalgia.Â
Most rappers are well known for their bud smoking abilities, I mean think of Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa. Others that may come to mind are Redman and Method Man – the two protagonists of How High. Ever smoked some bud that made you feel like an absolute genius? These two dudes certainly have. After smoking some literally magic herb, they ace some exams and find themselves at harvard – but it all starts to unwind pretty quickly.
This one is included in this list simply because of how weird and propaganda like this movie is. Watching it as a stoner, you can’t help but have a good laugh at how badly these tokers are portrayed. It’s some easy watching, provides a laugh and is simply a must see if you’re here for the culture.Â
Surely everyone knows about this one – smoker or not. Adding their ridiculous stoner twist to an otherwise simple storyline, Dale (Seth Rogen) and his dealer Saul (James Franco) make this movie. After witnissing a murder, paranoia sets in as their quest begins.Â
Both out of jobs, Craig and Smokey are spending their Friday toking it away. Unfortunately though, they get high on their own supply and find themselves in debt to the dealer. Turns out conjuring up 200 dollars isn’t as easy as it seems.Â
Ever partied so hard you can’t remember a damn thing that happened the night before? I know I have, but thankfully I’ve never lost a whole ass car! However, Jesse and Chester partied like animals and did end up losing a car, and it turns out it’s not easy to find your car when you can’t remember how you might have lost it. Join these two mellow dudes in their venture to find a missing car and watch the chaos unfold.Â
If you haven’t watched any of these stoner movies before, you should definitely add them to your list. Grab some snacks, puff on some of that good kush and enjoy!
