In a recent interview with an American TV station, an 86 year old Willie Nelson stated he has quit smoking the herb. Willie is no longer the spring chicken he once was, and after years of smoking, he faced some breathing issues on his latest tour. This reasoning is very much justified, the man has played his part and it may be the right time to pass the joint one final time.Â
As much as the man loves his bud, his lungs have taken quite a beating. Willie has contracted pneumonia on a number of occasions, as well as suffering from a collapsed lung in more recent years. These factors are what have led him to make the decision to no longer smoke marijuana.
The effects of cannabis on the lungs hasn’t been studied in much detail in relation to the long-term impact, but after years of partying and smoking cigs before finding his saving grace in cannabis, Willie Nelson’s lungs must be feeling a little tired.Â
Do you really think a pot lover such as Willie would ever put down pot for good? I certainly didn’t think so. Once you start loving the plant and it loves you in return, this relationship will never die. Willie may not be able to blaze it up with jiggys like he used to, but he still makes sure he gets his medicine. These days, Willie enjoys chowing down on some sweet edibles – with his wife’s THC infused chocolates being his go-to!
Luckily enough for us, Willie Nelson will still be here to see us through a few more years with his sweet tunes and infectious personality.Â
As South Africans, I hope we and the way we function in our community would make Willie proud if he were to ever see it.Â
